About PAI
Originally founded in 1977 and reorganized as The PAI Corporation in 1992, PAI is a private, non-profit human service organization whose purpose is to foster the development of quality person-centered, person-directed and person-controlled service options for individuals with mental retardation. When started in 1977, we provided community residential supports to 12 individuals with mental retardation in four homes and had a budget of less than $400,000. Today, we have 24 homes supporting 72 people, a shared living program supporting 4 individuals, a supported living program for one person and an Adult Day Services program supporting more than 85 people and the budget is in excess of $7.8 million. PAI is justifiably proud of its record of carefully planned growth and equally proud of its dedicated and committed staff, as without them this growth would not have been possible.
PAI’s Mission is “to provide those supports necessary to enable people with mental retardation to live as independently and fully as they desire within the community.”
In support of our mission, we believe:
- People with mental or physical disabilities are unique individuals with the same thoughts, desires, and dreams as anyone else.
- Each individual possesses gifts and talents that enhance and nurture the richness and diversity of the community.
- Each person’s capabilities, desires, and dreams will be the foundation for service choices and the individual receiving supports and services always comes FIRST.
- The development of service options for each person will be enhanced by an environment and attitude which is supportive and nurturing.
- Planning and decision-making can best occur through the commitment to a strengthening of a dynamic partnership between the individual, family, friends, the community and PAI. This network of relationships is integral to our mission and central to the concept of “Partners in Achieving Independence.”
With a “Commitment to Excellence”, we look forward to your involvement and participation as an individual, a family member, or someone looking to make a real difference as a staff member or volunteer and we appreciate your confidence in PAI.
In the end, we truly believe PAI was, is, and forever will be “All About People!!”
